The Gary/Chicago International Airport, in partnership with the American Red Cross, will host a community blood drive from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 23.
The event will be held at the airport’s main conference room, 6001-C Airport Road.
Open to the public, the blood drive addresses the ongoing need for blood donations across the region.
Appointments are encouraged to help ensure an efficient donation experience, although walk-ins will be accepted as space allows.

“The Gary/Chicago International Airport understands the critical role blood donations provide to saving lives, especially given the presence of first responders who serve on the front lines of public safety every day,” said Dan Vicari, the airport’s executive director.
According to the American Red Cross, blood cannot be manufactured and must be provided by volunteer donors. Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood, and a single donation can help save more than one life, Red Cross officials said.
Despite this need, only about 3% of eligible Americans donate blood.
“The need for blood is constant, and every donation has the potential to save lives,” said Ashley Holland of the American Red Cross.
Blood donations support patients facing a wide range of medical needs, including emergency care, cancer treatment, surgical procedures, and chronic conditions such as sickle cell disease.
