
JULY 4 FIREWORKS SHOW TO BE HELD AT FRONTIER
The Naperville Community Fireworks Show will be held at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, July 4, at Frontier Sports Complex, 3380 Cedar Glade Drive.
Before the free show, at 7:30 p.m., the Naperville Municipal Band will perform patriotic classics at the Wagner Pavilion in the 95th Street Community Plaza, next to the 95th Street Library.
Parking is free and available at the Frontier Sports Complex and Neuqua Valley High School lot, 2360 95th St. Maps, including parking options, are posted at naperville.il.us/eventinfo.
Naperville Park District and the city of Naperville are co-hosting the celebration in honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States’ Declaration of Independence.
STYROFOAM RECYCLING EVENT BEING HELD JULY 18
The Naperville Sustainability Office, Naperville Noon Lions and Naperville Environment and Sustainability Taskforce (NEST) will be collecting clean Styrofoam for recycling from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 18, at the Route 59 train station, 475 Fairway Drive.
Accepted items include packing material, cups, clamshells, meat trays, egg cartons and ice chests.
Packing peanuts, blue building insulation, and dirty or food contaminated items will not be accepted.
Naperville Noon Lions also will be collecting eyeglasses, phones, running shoes, key fobs, keys, brass, hearing aids and printer cartridges for recycling.
Volunteers will be set up near the north side of the tracks. Dart Container Corp. of North Aurora is providing a semi-trailer for the event.

NAPERVILLE NORTH TEACHER NAMED AMVETS COMMANDER
The Department of Illinois AMVETS has named John S. Cole II, a teacher and coach at Naperville North High School, as its new state commander.
Cole teaches chemistry, serves as head advisor for the school’s Model United Nations program and is the head coach for the girls bowling team.
He has been a lifelong advocate for veterans, education and community service, a news release said.
An Army veteran, Cole was recently honored as the Post 1337 and District IV VFW High School Educator of the Year for 2026. He has held numerous positions at AMVETS Post 90 and The Forty & Eight Voiture 207 organization and is a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and American Legion Post 66.
As state commander, Cole said he plans to strengthen AMVETS membership, support veteran service initiatives, expand partnerships among veteran service organizations and ensure veterans have access to the benefits and resources they earned through their service, the release said.
CONCERTS, CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS CONTINUE IN JULY
Naperville Park District has free mid-summer entertainment planned as the Children’s Lunch Hour Entertainment and Concerts in Your Park series continue.
Three children’s programs will be presented at 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays.
Rick Kelley is the featured performer June 30 at the 95th Street Community Plaza, 3109 Cedar Glade Drive, followed by Nanny Nikki on July 7 at the Riverwalk Grand Pavilion, 912 Honorary Sindt Memorial Court, and Istvan & His Imaginary Band on July 14 at the 95th Street Community Plaza.
The park district has four Concerts in Your Park events planned for July. Each takes place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sundays.
Upcoming shows are Brass on Fire on June 28 at Ashwood Park, 4603 Chinaberry Lane; Within Four Days on July 12 at Arrowhead Park, 711 Iroquois Ave.; The Messengers on July 19 at Winding Creek Park, 144 W Bailey Road; and Infunktious on July 26 at Tall Grass Park, 3512 Grassmere Road.
