ROUTE 59 ROAD WORK IN NAPERVILLE STARTS JULY 13

Road work on Route 59 from McCoy Drive to Artesian Road in Naperville and Aurora will start Monday, July 13, and continue through November, an Illinois Department of Transportation news release said.

The $4.6 million project includes patching and resurfacing and will require intermittent daytime lane closures, IDOT said. New ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps will be installed.

Drivers can expect delays and should allow extra time or use alternate routes, the release said. Drivers will have access to homes and businesses within the construction area.

UNPLUG AT NAPERVILLE PARKS, WIN A GIFT CARD

To encourage the community to unplug from their electronic devices and enjoy the outdoors, the Naperville Park District is offering a challenge to visit three parks between July 11 and July 19 for a chance to win a gift card.

Anyone who visits three or more locations and fills out an online form will be entered into a drawing for one of three $25 gift cards, a park district news release said.

Participants are asked to complete an activity, such as attend an outdoor concert, toss a football, walk a trail, photograph nature, have a picnic or cool off at a splash pad. The park district has 15 participating parks from which to choose suggested activities, which can be found at www.napervilleparks.org/unplugnpd.

The online check-in form asks participants to pick their favorite park or activity and upload pictures of their outdoor time.

Encouraging residents to enjoy their local parks and recreation facilities is part of the 8th annual Unplug Illinois Day, which takes place Saturday, July 11.

RAYMOND DRIVE BRIDGE REPAIR WORK TO START

Construction to repair Raymond Drive bridge over Interstate 88 in Naperville is expected to begin Monday, July 6, the Illinois Tollway announced.

The work will require lane reductions and traffic shifts.

Starting Monday, all traffic will be shifted onto the northbound side of the bridge and reduced to one lane in each direction for deck repairs, a news release said. This configuration will remain until August, when traffic will be shifted onto the southbound side of the bridge.

The project includes bridge deck repairs and resurfacing as well as center drainage and electrical work. Work is scheduled to be complete this summer.

Overnight lane closures will take place on I-88 in both directions, the release said. Electronic messages and construction signs will be displayed to alert drivers.
