Dems in how water. It was a no good, very bad week for Democrats. Nationally, Maine U.S. Senate candidate Graham Platner is facing yet another accusation of sexual misconduct and has suspended his campaign. Here in Illinois, state Rep. Harry Benton, R-Plainfield, is also in hot water over alleged sexual misconduct and has resigned his position in the General Assembly.

Messi saves the day. Seventy-eight minutes into Argentina’s World Cup matchup against Egypt, that star-studded team was down 2-0. In just 13 minutes, the team scored three goals to take the victory, with the equalizer goal coming at minute 83 thanks to team leader Lionel Messi.

¡Viva la revolución! At a press conference this week, Mayor Brandon Johnson declared that Chicagoans want “a full-out revolution in this city.” Can you hear the people sing?

  1. “I think that one of the reasons, though, that (state Rep. Harry Benton) may have chosen to resign is because … a report can’t be released about somebody that’s not in the Legislature anymore.” — Gov. JB Pritzker
  2. “Speaker Welch should join me in calling for (state Rep. Carol Ammons’) resignation. Leadership means holding your own members accountable, not waiting until political pressure becomes unavoidable. Elected officials are entrusted with serving the public, not enriching themselves, and the seriousness of these allegations demands accountability.” — House Minority Leader Tony McCombie
  3. “It’s been interesting to see some of those people who dragged this woman, Lindsey Fifield, who was in The New York Times story, they called it uncorroborated claims. You know, another person basically said that she was essentially a plant of the Republican Party. And now those people have changed their tune.” — CNN “NewsNight” host Abby Phillip
  4. “I told (Lionel Messi) right there on the pitch to enjoy the moment because he deserved it and that we would keep giving our all for ourselves — but above all for him, since this is his last World Cup and he has given us so much.” — Argentina national soccer team’s Lautaro Martínez
  5. “The progressive movement is alive and well. We just have a few obstinate individuals that are more aligned with the interests of corporations that are ultimately stalling what could be a full-out revolution in this city, and the people of Chicago want it.” — Mayor Brandon Johnson
