Richards is starting to act like one of the state`s best teams. It also could end up an unbeaten team.

The Bulldogs, ranked eighth going into the weekend, are a good bet to move up because No. 7 Downers Grove South lost Friday night.

They have won six straight this season, and with Saturday`s 54-0 pasting of Shepard (0-6, 0-3), they own a 4-0 record in the South Inter-Conference Association North Division. Stagg, which lost to Richards 42-7 last week, is second with a 3-1 mark. Next weekend Richards plays Oak Lawn (1-5); the next two weekends, the Bulldogs have perhaps their toughest tests of the fall-against Thornton (4-2) in a nonconference game and against conference rival Sandburg (4-2, 2-1).

Richards` defense has posted three shutouts this fall-and has never allowed more than a touchdown in those six victories.

And Saturday, for the second week, the Bulldog offense put up big numbers, including a 28-point first quarter. Tony Jansto had a pair of touchdowns in that period, on 4- and 20-yard runs, and Effrem Haymore threw 19 yards to Carl Haymore for another score. Credit for the fourth touchdown goes to the defense-Haymore ran 5 yards with an interception for a touchdown.

In the second quarter, the Bulldogs struck for two more touchdowns-on a 28-yard interception return by John Newton and on a 10-yard run by Jansto. In the third quarter, Arthur Russell ran 70 yards for a Richards touchdown and Kevin Jackson closed the scoring with a 5-yard TD run in the fourth period.

Jansto ended the game with 109 yards on 10 carries; Russell had 103 yards on 6 carries. Haymore was 8 for 12 passing for 128 yards. Defensively Chad Randick had a pair of interceptions.

Thornridge 15, Thornton 13 (OT)-Keith Dunigan ran 13 yards for the touchdown and Jason Simmons ran for the two-point conversion in OT for Thornridge (4-2, 2-1 in the SICA East). Xaba Maghawe scored on a 3-yard dash for Thornton (4-2, 2-2), but the Wildcats missed the conversion.
