A group of Highwood aldermen who have battled the mayor over a proposed ordinance that would allow councilmen and other village officials to carry guns will meet Tuesday to set rules for a decisive Feb. 18 meeting on the issue, a councilman said Sunday.
Last week Mayor Fidel Ghini vetoed a proposed ordinance that would have given the council members, firemen and other city officials power to act as
”peace officers” in the community. The plan has come under heavy criticism from groups across the Chicago area.
Ald. Joseph Obenberger said the group of aldermen will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the council`s chambers to pass rules that will ensure that the Feb. 18 meeting is held in chambers, not a community center as the mayor has sought.
