Village President Donna Thomas has announced that she will seek re-election this spring to a second term.

”I like what we`ve accomplished since I`ve been mayor but there is still more to be done,” said Thomas, a 50-year-old real estate broker and executive director of the Northwest Housing Partnership.

Thomas said last week that she will run in the nonpartisan April election for the position, which does not include a salary but carries a $500 monthly expense allowance.

Thomas said she takes pride in some of the village`s accomplishments during her tenure, including getting Inverness on-line with the 911 emergency system, ironing out a franchise agreement with Commonwealth Edison and establishing the position of village administrator.

She also points to the fact that under her administration, a long-standing eyesore in the center of town known as the Urban property is being converted into a wetland.

In a second term, she said, she wants to guide the village in deciding whether to continue contracting for police services and to focus on ways to improve fire protection.
