Oak Forest police arrested a local resident Sunday in connection with a hit-and-run accident that seriously injured a 16-year-old boy over the weekend.

John Diaz, 22, of 5329La Palm Ct., was charged with one count of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, a felony, said Oak Forest Police Lt. Nick Sparacino. Diaz was scheduled to appear Monday for a bond hearing in the Markham branch of Cook County Circuit Court.

The accident happened about 6:20 p.m. Saturday on Mission Avenue near Fern Avenue.

The teenager who was struck lives blocks from the scene. He was listed Sunday night in serious condition at Columbia Olympia Fields Osteopathic Hospital and Medical Center.

Sparacino said police found the suspect by tracing a broken piece of an auto turn-signal lens found at the scene.
