The Dundee Township Park District Board decided Wednesday night to use a $200,000 state grant to expand Randall Oaks Park.
Fourteen of the park’s 144 acres, on Randall Road in unincorporated Dundee Township, have been developed with a petting zoo, playground and picnic area.
The expansion, covering 50 acres, will include a community picnic shelter that will hold up to 200 people.
There also would be three soccer fields, a new playground, a paved play area with basketball courts and a trail system for jogging, hiking and cross-country skiing. The park road would be extended, and parking for 200 cars would be added.
The project’s projected total cost is $575,000.
The Park District recently learned it had been awarded the $200,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
