Two people were injured Sunday in a house fire that may have started in the home’s basement, Lake Zurich Fire and Rescue Department officials said.

The four people living at 500 Burr Oak Drive managed to escape the 1 a.m. fire, officials said.

Two people were treated at the scene for burns. One of them, a man in his early 40s, was taken to Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, where he was treated for first-degree burns and released, hospital officials said.

At least 25 firefighters, including those from Wauconda’s fire department, helped to battle the blaze in the below-freezing temperatures, officials said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
