Ray Ferraro scored with 2:56 remaining in overtime for his second goal of the game Monday night as the Los Angeles Kings rallied for a 3-2 victory over the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.
Yanic Perreault tied the score with 2:07 left in regulation for the Kings.
The Kings scored on their only shot of the extra period. Ferraro took a pass from Vladimir Tsyplakov, skated in untouched and crashed the net. The puck trickled in under goaltender Guy Hebert’s right leg while he was on the seat of his pants.
The Kings were without defenseman Mattias Norstrom, who was suspended for at least one game pending a hearing for a hit Saturday that will keep Edmonton Oilers center Tony Hrkac out for 10 days.
Islanders 1, Red Wings 1: The Islanders ended their 10-game losing streak behind rookie goaltender Wade Flaherty, who made 30 saves in his second straight start since being recalled from the minors Friday.
Igor Larionov scored for the Red Wings at 4:52 of the third period on a slap shot from the right circle that got between Flaherty’s pads.
Tom Chorske put the Islanders ahead 1-0 at 2:28 of the second period with his seventh goal of the season.
Rangers 3, Maple Leafs 2: In New York, Wayne Gretzky set up three goals and rookie goaltender Dan Cloutier remained unbeaten in three decisions.
Gretzky assisted on a first-period goal by Pat LaFontaine and second-period scores by Niklas Sundstrom and Adam Graves as the Rangers beat Toronto for the seventh straight time.
Cloutier, making only his second NHL start in place of Mike Richter, made 23 saves to improve his NHL record to 3-0-0.
Mats Sundin scored two goals for the Maple Leafs, who are 1-6-2 in their last nine games.
Penguins 4, Hurricanes 1: Ron Francis scored two goals, including the game-winner with 8:59 left in Greensboro, N.C.
Jaromir Jagr, the NHL’s third-leading scorer, assisted on both of Francis’ goals and iced the game with his 21st goal of the season with 2:28 left. The Penguins moved to 17-0-2 this season when leading at the start of the third period.
Keith Primeau scored for the seventh time in the last eight games as the Hurricanes tied the Penguins 1-1 at 3:33 of the final period. But Primeau’s 15th goal of the season held up for less than 8 minutes as Carolina fell to 0-5 against Pittsburgh this season.
Canadiens 6, Lightning 3: Vincent Damphousse had a shorthanded goal and four assists for Montreal, which dealt the host Lightning its fifth straight loss. The Canadiens scored five times in the first period, with Damphousse getting one goal and setting up three others. Marc Bureau had two goals as Montreal won its fifth consecutive road game.
Bruins 1, Devils 1: Patrik Elias scored 5:26 into the third period as New Jersey forged a tie in Boston. Sergei Samsonov scored for the Bruins, who extended their unbeaten streak to six games (3-0-3). The Devils moved past Philadelphia for the best record in the Eastern Conference.
Oilers 2, Blues 1: Dan McGillis scored the go-ahead goal on a power play with 5:20 left in the third period and Edmonton extended its season-high winning streak to four games by winning at home.
The Oilers, who trailed 1-0 after 40 minutes, scored twice in the third period. The Blues, who had won four in a row, are 0-3 against the Blues this season.
Avalanche 3, Panthers 1: Joe Sakic scored a shorthanded goal and Jari Kurri scored on a power play for Colorado, which ended a three-game winless streak.
The Avalanche beat Florida in Denver for the first time since moving three years ago from Quebec. Colorado had been 0-1-1 at home against the Panthers.
Stars 3, Sharks 1: Joe Nieuwendyk and Jere Lehtinen had power-play goals and Dallas allowed just 15 shots in winning for the eighth time in its last 11 road games.
Tony Granato scored for the Sharks, who have allowed just 31 goals in their last 15 games. San Jose was outshot 31-15 in the game.
