Attorneys for Donna Gist, who was convicted of murdering a 5-month-old Winfield baby in her care, have filed a motion for a new trial.
The defense argued in a motion filed Thursday that there were court errors during the trial and that there was insufficient evidence to convict the 35-year-old nurse’s assistant, who lived in Hillside before her arrest for the January 1996 killing of Matthew Hendrickson.
A jury convicted Gist of first-degree murder on Dec. 15 after a five-day trial. She is in DuPage County Jail awaiting sentencing. She faces mandatory life in prison.
Judge George Bakalis is scheduled to hear arguments Feb. 26 on the motion for new trial.
