Woodstock School District 200 Supt. Joseph Hentges on Friday made his first appearance in McHenry County Court on forgery charges related to the district’s purchase of 120 acres in 1991.

Hentges and Craig Krandel, one of the district’s lawyers, were indicted Tuesday, both on forgery charges for allegedly signing documents on behalf of the McHenry County Regional Board of School Trustees. They did not have authority to act on behalf of the regional board, according to the indictments.

Hentges appeared Friday before Judge Ward Arnold, who set the next hearing for March 17 and then disqualified himself from further handling of the case without giving a reason.

Hentges will appear March 17 before Judge Thomas A. Schermerhorn to enter a plea to the charge. He will plead innocent, said his lawyer, Thomas Loizzo. Krandel appeared before Arnold on Wednesday. He is also scheduled to return to court March 17.
