The Joliet Township High School District 204 board has endorsed a proposed tax abatement to lure a company to a city industrial park even though it could mean a loss of $60,000 in taxes to the district over three years.
Last week, the board voted 5-2 on a request by Kendall Health Care to move to the Rock Run Industrial Park at Houbolt Road and Interstate 80. The Joliet City Council will consider the request Tuesday.
The company is negotiating for a lease with the park’s developer, Industrial Developments International of Oak Brook Terrace, for a 17.6-acre site. The company has requested a 50 percent tax abatement for three years.
David Sellers, assistant superintendent for business and personnel, said the abatement would cost $60,000 in taxes. Board member Chet June said he favored the plan because the company eventually would produce more tax dollars for the district.
