One of the most impressive scenes in the romantic drama “Hope Floats” is its opening, which parodies an afternoon TV talk show.
Sandra Bullock, a guest on a Jerry Springer-like program, learns her husband is having an affair with her best friend. Forest Whitaker, who directed “Hope Floats,” went right to the source for inspiration for the scene. “I went to Chicago to do my research with `The Jerry Springer Show,’ ” says Whitaker, who recalls the day that he visited the show “everybody was taking their clothes off.”
But he says the biggest shock was Springer himself. As Whitaker puts it, “Springer acted absolutely embarrassed.”
