Chicago physician Arthur C. Berman, 94, died Feb. 27 in Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago of a bronchial infection. Dr. Berman was on the staff of Cabrini, Columbus, and Cook County Hospitals. His private practice for many years was located near Jackson Boulevard and Halsted Street. Dr. Berman also was an industrial emergency surgeon, helping the factory workers of major local companies such as Coca-Cola, Acorn Tire, and Hart Schaffner & Marx. “People would get injured daily on the job,” said his son, Seymour Berman. Dr. Berman also served the residents of the Cabrini-Green public housing development. “He practiced so long there they called him the mayor of Halsted Street,” his son said. Other survivors include two sons, Marvin and Renard; two daughters, Elissa Fisher and Leila Berman; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Services were held.
