Reggie Torian of Markham won his first world-championship medal by finishing second to Colin Jackson of Great Britain in the 60-meter hurdles Friday at the World Indoor Track and Field Championships in Maebashi, Japan.
Torian, a Thornwood High and Wisconsin product, saw his finish-line lunge fall just short. Jackson was clocked in 7.38 seconds to 7.40 for Torian.
“I thought I had it all the way,” Torian said.
Torian was among five U.S. medalists on the opening day of the three-day meet. DeDee Nathan of Indiana set a U.S. record of 4,753 points to win the pentathlon, while John Godina was second in the shot put. Triple jumper LaMark Carter and high jumper Tisha Waller won bronzes.
