Breakdowns have been killing the Wolves lately. Sunday’s 4-2 loss to the Kansas City Blades before 15,024 at the Horizon was a prime example.

Despite outshooting the Blades 39-21, the Wolves fell into a 3-0 hole after one period and were doomed to their third loss in the last four games by mental mistakes.

“I liked our effort, but are we stupid or what?” said Wolves coach John Anderson, whose team is 2-5-2 in its last nine games. “I wonder if we’re mentally prepared.”

Sunday, Kansas City’s David Ling scored a two-on-one just 19 seconds into the game. Jean-Guy Trudel made it 2-0 with a power-play goal at 6:37 when he was left wide open in front of goaltender Wendell Young.

David Vallieres gave the Blades a 3-0 lead at 18:17 after the Wolves botched coverage on a two-on-two K.C. rush. The Wolves made it 3-2 after two periods on goals by Glen Featherstone and Steve Maltais, but Eric Perrin’s goal iced it for K.C.
