The Marengo City Council added two new members at this week’s meeting by appointing Donna Purdom and John Jackner to fill two vacancies.

Purdom and Jackner, who were appointed to two-year terms, were sworn in and took their places among fellow aldermen. Both are filling 3rd Ward vacancies because no one ran in the spring election.

Mayor Becky Johnson said she now hopes to fill the vacant city administrator position. Johnson had made an offer to a candidate, whom she would not name. However, that candidate did not accept or decline the position by the time the council meeting began Monday night.
