Batavia District 101 school board members approved a budget that puts to work the largest bond issue in the district’s history.
In April, voters approved a $26.3 million ballot question that allowed the growing district to set the wheels in motion for the construction of two new elementary schools. Officials expect to spend about $8 million to build each school, according to Joseph Yagel, assistant superintendent for business.
The new budget for fiscal year 2000 calls for $59.5 million in revenues, according to Yagel.
Expenditures for the year comprise approximately $46.6 million. Even with the new construction, the district’s education fund, which pays for items including salaries and instructional supplies, makes up about $25.3 million, the largest chunk of expenditures.
