DES PLAINES

Applications are available for the Des Plaines Arts Council’s fine arts scholarships for students age 22 and younger who live in incorporated or unincorporated Des Plaines. The award of up to $500 can be used for tuition in any fine arts program. Applications are due April 15. HOFFMAN ESTATES

Applications for the Miss Hoffman Estates Scholarship Pageant are due by 5 p.m. March 8 in the Village Hall, 1900 Hassell Rd. The pageant is for women ages 17 to 24 who live or work full-time in the village. The pageant will be held April 7. Call 847-781-2606.

DISTRICT 25

The District 46 Young Author Celebration will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday in Hemmens Auditorium, 150 Dexter Ct., Elgin. Continuous presentations will be given by authors Shana Corey and Carolyn Crimi. Books written by district students will be on display.

DISTRICT 59

Kindergarten registration for the 2002-03 school year will be held from 4:30 to 8 p.m. March 6 in all elementary schools. Children who are 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2002, are eligible to enter kindergarten this fall. Registration is due Friday for Expanding Your Horizons, a conference for middle-school girls who attend public or private school within District 64’s boundaries, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 16 in Emerson Middle School, 8101 N. Cumberland Ave., Niles. Girls will meet women in a variety of careers and can participate in 25 seminars. The cost is $7 and includes lunch. Forms are available in school offices.
