Sr. M. Josepha “Lucille M.” Schorsch SSSF, age 86 years, died Monday, March 25, 2002 at Sacred Heart Center, Milwaukee, WI. This ended 60 years of service as a School Sister of St. Francis. Sister was born in Chicago on Oct. 26, 1915 to Anton and Anna Schorsch, the third eldest of eight children. She was graduated from Alvernia High School and studied piano with Oscar Deis and organ with Arthur C. Becker of DePaul University where she received her first degree. Both before and after entering the convent, she gave music lessons and served as a parish organist. Her last position in the Chicago area was at Queen of All Saints in Sauganash under Pastor Rev. Francis Dolan. While continuing her graduate studies, she joined the faculty of Alverno College in Milwaukee where in 1970 she was included in the edition of Outstanding Educators in America. Using music, she earlier helped two handicapped young people, prompting her to join the National Association for Music Therapy. She eventually became president and collaborated in writing a book on the subject. In 1989 she was honored for her pioneer work in the field of music therapy. Sr. Josepha is survived by her sisters, Agnes Horwath, Mary Ann Ryan (John) and Ann Therese Schorsch; brothers, Anton F. Schorsch (Jacqueline) and Stephen L. Schorsch (Joan); and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Monday, April 1 at the St. Joseph’s Convent Chapel, 1501 S. Layton Blvd., Milwaukee, WI from 4 to 6 p.m., with Mass following. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at her home parish, St. Pascal Church, 3935 N.
