Developers were given another year to design and secure financing for a 12-story senior residential facility.
The City Council voted Monday to allow the developers to present a building proposal as late as May 30, 2003.
The Riviera was proposed last year by Nick Mitchell, owner of Grazie! Ristorante and Banquets on the site. If approved, the senior residence would be built next to the restaurant on Oakton Street.
Aldermen also increased fines for violators of one-, two- and three-hour parking rules near the downtown Metra station. Fines were raised to $10 from $3 after Assistant City Atty. Ray Bartel said current fines don’t deter scofflaws when some neighboring communities charge up to $2 a day for parking in designated commuter lots.
