A Maywood man who was shot Tuesday while mowing grass on the 1800 block of South 6th Avenue died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to an autopsy conducted by the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
On Wednesday, the medical examiner classified the death of Terrell Boyd, 25, of the 200 block of South 20th Avenue as a homicide, according to a medical examiner’s spokeswoman.
About 5:20 p.m., police responded to a report of gunfire. When they arrived, they found Boyd on the ground.
He was pronounced dead at 5:54 p.m. in Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, according to a medical examiner’s spokeswoman.
A police spokesman could not be reached for comment Wednesday. Neighbors said Boyd had been mowing two lawns.
Though the medical examiner’s office said Boyd’s address was on South 20th Avenue, one neighbor said Boyd had been living at one of the homes where he was mowing.
In the last two months, there have been several shootings in Maywood, including one in early May in which seven people were wounded at 13th Avenue and Warren Street. But people who live near the area where Boyd was shot said it is unusual for such violence to occur on that block.
“This is totally new, especially in this area,” one neighbor said. “It’s very quiet.”
