Reeltime is presenting documentaries with two visions of Halsted Street. In the 10-minute “Halsted Street” (1932), socialist filmmaker Conrad Friberg reveals how Depression effected people’s lives. In the hour-long “Halsted Street, U.S.A.” (1999), David E. Simpson’s road trip lovingly chronicles the diverse communities he finds along this stretch of Americana. A discussion with Simpson and film scholar Chuck Kleinhans will follow.
