The musical “Sweet Charity,” already plagued by star Christina Applegate’s broken foot, has canceled its Broadway plans and will close after a final performance on Sunday in Boston.

“I know I speak on behalf of my partners when I say how deeply proud we are of everyone who worked on this production,” producer Barry Weissler said in a statement released Friday. “However, our weak sales on the road and in New York have left us with little choice.”

The $7.5 million production had been slated to begin preview performances on April 4 and to open April 21 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.

Applegate got mixed reviews during the show’s recent runs in Minneapolis and Chicago. She broke her foot March 11 in Chicago.
