OK, this is really early stuff, but this is a pretty historic contest, so let the record reflect that the first returns reported by Connecticut in the Democratic Senate primary election showed challenger Ned Lamont collecting more votes than Sen. Joe Lieberman, a three-term incumbent.
Yet, with about two-thirds of the vote counted, Lamont still was leading Lieberman by 52 percent to 48 percent. All the turnouts are very high,” said Dan Tapper, a spokesman for the state elections office. Today’s turnout could break the state’s previous primary record of 38.8 percent of eligible voters, he said.
This was the first report, but the reports that followed were just as interesting:
Fairfield County: Nothing reported yet
Hartford County: Nothing reported yet
Litchfield County: Lamont 174, Lieberman 47
Middlesex County: Lamont 300, Lieberman 215
New Haven County: Nothing yet
New London County: Lamont 74, Lieberman 71
Tolland County: Nothing yet
Windham County: Lamont 370, Lieberman 202
Total:
Ned Lamont: 918
Joe Lieberman: 435
Note that moments later, with three counties still not reporting:
It’s Lamont 3,987, Lieberman 3,077.
And moments later, with all but two counties starting to report:
It’s Lamont 5,304, Lieberman 4,227.
And moments later, with preliminary vote counts from all of Connecticut’s counties:
It’s Lamont 8,990, Lieberman 7,179.
And yet later, with the first results now streaming in from all Connecticut counties:
Lamont 13,441, Lieberman 11,324.
But that is about as early as returns come, folks. Could be a long night.
