Redshirt freshman Andrew Brewer has shown Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald enough to remain the starting quarterback. “Andrew’s our guy,” Fitzgerald said Monday. “He’s done a nice job, not a championship performance, but he puts us in position to be successful.”

Asked if Brewer would remain the starter unless he was injured, Fitzgerald replied, “Yes, I don’t see any other reason why he wouldn’t.” . . .

Fitzgerald said “all signs point” to the return of offensive tackle Dylan Thiry, who missed Saturday’s game with a sternum injury, to return to the starting lineup. . . . Guard Joel Belding, who missed the game following the death of his father, may also be back in action.
