A longtime Will County prosecutor has been appointed to fill a new judicial seat, making her the second woman named to the local trial bench this week.

Illinois Supreme Court Justice Thomas Kilbride recommended Friday the appointment of Assistant State’s Atty. Sarah Jones, a county prosecutor since 1993, the year after she was admitted to the bar.

Jones, 40, of Elwood is a courtroom supervisor in the felony division, where she obtained convictions in all three murder cases she prosecuted in the last two years.

The Supreme Court on Thursday announced the appointment of Assistant Public Defender Carmen Julia Lynn Goodman to a new Will County judicial seat. Both Goodman and Jones will be sworn in Jan. 19 and will serve until November 2008, when the posts will be up for election.
