Northwestern offensive coordinator Garrick McGee has been charged with driving under the influence and speeding in Tulsa on Christmas Eve.

According to charges filed Thursday in Tulsa County District Court, McGee was cited for driving a 2006 Cadillac 55 m.p.h. in a 35-m.p.h. zone on Dec. 24.

– Duquesne center Almamy Thiero was hospitalized with blood clots in his lungs and will be sidelined indefinitely.

Thiero’s illness is the latest setback for the Dukes (5-10), who had five players shot on campus Sept. 17–only one of whom, sophomore guard Aaron Jackson, is currently playing.

– Former Brother Rice guard Bobby Frasor will miss North Carolina’s game Saturday against Georgia Tech with a nagging right foot injury.

– Mitch Mustain, Arkansas’ highly recruited freshman quarterback who asked for and received his release from the Razorbacks this week, has re-enrolled for classes this semester

– A judge ordered former Northern Colorado backup punter Mitch Cozad, accused of stabbing starter Rafael Mendoz, to stand trial on attempted first-degree murder charges.

– The University of California will pay $725,000 to former wrestling coach Michael Burch, who claimed he was fired in 2001 after challenging the school for excluding women from the sport.

– Georgia Tech assistant Patrick Nix was hired as Miami’s new offensive coordinator, the first major personnel move for the program since Randy Shannon took over as head coach.
