Waukegan High School officials were on alert Tuesday after a threat was found written on a stall in a bathroom late Monday, police said.

Police searched the Upper Grade Center, 2325 W. Brookside Ave., before school Tuesday morning, and students were briefly kept out during the search, Police Cmdr. Wayne Walles said. A police dog indicated that a locker might have contained something suspicious, Walles said, but a search found nothing, he said. Students were asked to wait at nearby Weiss Field, Walles said.

Police also searched the Ninth Grade Center, 1011 Washington St., Walles said.

The written threat implied that there would be violence against the school, but Walles declined to release specific information because of the probe.

School officials issued a “Code White” security level until further notice, Walles said. Parents can go to www.waukeganschools.org for updates, Walles said.
