My goodness, what a drag.

Believe it, or not, I’m talking about our Chicago Bulls.

Here’s the drag. We take down the Heat in four, and our reward is not only having to go to Detroit, but we have to wait a stinking week to do it.

Call me buffoonish here, but I think we have — correction, had — a little something called “momentum” here. I say we only can stand three days off; four, tops.

Think about it. The Pistons wrapped up their series in four games as well, so it’s not like anybody has anything better going on.

If you’re a player, you need to be fresh. If you’re a coach, you need to stay sharp. If you’re a fan, you need to stay fanatical. This is like that bizarre week off between the championship games and the Super Bowl, only in this case, we have a shot at winning.

I suppose I should be happier. I’m on edge, though, and you know why. It’s Detroit. Again. Always. The Tigers beat out the Sox last year, the Pistons have been pretty brutal on us in the past, the Red Wings stopped scheduling the Blackhawks out of boredom, and the Lions … well, they’re still the Lions.

The least we could have done to even things up was sign Ben Wallace away from the Pistons. Thank you, John Paxson, for doing this, and thank you 1,000 times for not trading Luol Deng. He’s ours forever, I say. And something tells me we’ll get that low-post scorer in the upcoming draft. Thank you as well, Isaiah Thomas.

Speaking of general managers we should be thanking, how about Jerry Angelo? He drafted what’s known in football as a Tight End. I’ve never heard of this before, so I consulted Wikipedia. Here’s what they said, and I’m paraphrasing: “Their main jobs are: block for the runningback/quarterback, catch passes, and assist fellow linemen in blocking during passing plays.”

A couple of things: 1) You don’t want me paraphrasing; it’s not my strong suit; and 2) Do you mean to say the football powers that be have created a position where someone can do all of these things to help a team and the Bears have essentially ignored it over the last half century?

I’m sorry, there’s more: “Their versatility and speed help create mismatches in coverage, thereby opening up the passing attack.”

Wow. Who knew?

The Bulls sweep the Heat, and we draft a Tight End in one weekend.

It’s a new world, people.
