A tornado reportedly touched down a few miles south of Beecher on Tuesday afternoon, Will County officials said.

Bill Ferguson, director of the county’s Emergency Management Agency, said there were no reports of injuries or property damage associated with the twister, which was seen by a trained spotter. Trees were reportedly knocked down in a circular pattern in Wilton Center, he said.

A tornado warning was canceled by 3 p.m., but a severe thunderstorm watch remained in effect across northeastern Illinois until late in the day, said Bill Nelson, meteorologist for the National Weather Service.

Eastern Will County had been under a tornado warning, Nelson said, adding that his office was compiling damage reports from the storm, which brought lightning and thunder across the area.

“There will be periods of heavy downpours, but most of the severe stuff will be way down to the south,” Nelson said, referring to areas of Will County and northwestern Indiana.

Temperatures were expected to fall Wednesday, with highs expected to reach only the mid-60s.
