A Wauconda Township man late Thursday won a round in his 40-year land fight when a jury found him not guilty of violating a state agency’s seal meant to keep him off a property, according to the Lake County Circuit Court clerk’s office.
John Tarkowski, 81, of the 27200 block of West Lakeview Drive South, was accused of four misdemeanor charges of violating the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency seal, which was placed on his 16-acre property last July, and allegedly allowing trucks to dump waste on the land.
A state EPA official said the ruling would not affect an ongoing, court-ordered cleanup of the property, which the state says has been used as an illegal dump.
