Police on Monday were investigating why a Ford Mustang veered off a Schaumburg street over the weekend, injuring all four people in the car and four bystanders awaiting a fireworks display.
One of the occupants in the vehicle was injured seriously, but police said that none of the injuries was life-threatening.
Witnesses told police the car went off Plum Grove Road south of Schaumburg Road about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, hit four people sitting in lawn chairs and came to rest after striking a tree.
Among the injured were the 18-year-old woman driving the car and three passengers — another 18-year-old woman and two 16-year-old boys.
It is unknown whether drugs, alcohol or speed were factors in the accident, said Schaumburg police Sgt. John Nebl. No other details were released.
