There’s no smoking in Ontario. That means you, Sean Penn.
As the Sept. 6-15 Toronto International Film Festival nears, organizers want stars to remember they’re not above the law. Last year, Penn disobeyed the province’s anti-smoking law at a news conference, in full view of photographers. He left town, but Toronto public health officials fined the hotel that hosted the news conference.
Ahead of this year’s festival, Ontario health officials sent a letter to festival organizers warning that no one, stars or otherwise, can light up, the Hollywood Reporter says. Organizers promised to obey. Penn will be back to test that out and promote his film “Into the Wild.”
