Basketball got pushed aside again this weekend at Knicks’ camp after Isiah Thomas and his wife called Rev. Al Sharpton about Sharpton’s demand for an apology for Thomas’ recent legal testimony. Citing Thomas’ remarks in a taped deposition that there are different standards for white and black men who call a black woman a specific derogatory name, Sharpton, both before and after the phone call, proposed picketing Madison Square Garden if the Knicks’ president and coach doesn’t apologize. Thomas, following Saturday morning’s practice at the College of Charleston, called that deposition “edited, spliced video” that was “taken out of context” and did not reflect his true views. He said he and his wife Lynn called Sharpton to tell him that.
