Batavia quickly recovered with a nine-point run in the last 1:21 to end the quarter with a 46-38 lead and pulled away in the fourth. Batavia played without Northwestern-bound Nick Fruendt, who is battling mononucleosis.

The Mustangs extended their lead to 47-31 with 6:30 left in the fourth quarter. Stevenson came as close as 55-51 with 34 seconds remaining, but Mundelein hit three free throws down the stretch for the victory.

The Blazing Trojans started the game with a 14-2 run behind balanced scoring and held an eight-point lead or more thereafter.

The bonus: “[Head coach John Stanczykiewicz] said everyone just come out hard and set the tone so it carries over to the rest of the game,” Boothe said.

Halftime: Geneva 28-22.
Summary: Midway through the third quarter, Geneva built a 36-24 lead, but Batavia chipped away and opened the fourth quarter on a 12-2 run to take a 42-41 lead. The Bulldogs took the lead for good with 1:23 left on a three-point play by F Natalie Tarter.
Top performers: Batavia — Tarter, 19 points (9 in 4th quarter); G Kelsey Oswald, 11 points; Geneva — G Taylor Whitley, 18 points.
