Who’s big enough for the presidency at this moment in the nation’s history? is the question Sen. Hillary Clinton wants voters in Iowa and New Hampshire to ask. Of course, she wants her name to be the answer.

In the 30-second ad called “Stakes,” that is set to go up in the two earliest voting states tomorrow, the ad makers show a series of scenes meant to get voters to that answer.

There’s the image of a soldier’s helmet, a house with a foreclosure sign, the national debt clock and an infant receiving a physical examination as well as an image of Clinton in profile looking the way she would on a coin and another of her supporters with signs like “Ready for Change.”The on-screen text accompanying the images reads:

“A nation at war. Troubles at home. A nation at a crossroads. Demands a leader. With a steady hand. Who will weather the storms. Solve our problems. Rebuild our middle class. And renew our greatness.” (Punctuation added.)

For Clinton, the ad’s a no-brainer. Repeated surveys have found that surveyed voters perceive her the most prepared Democratic candidate. The ad seeks to reinforce that sentiment, and to imply that going with either of the other top-tier candidates, John Edwards and especially Sen. Barack Obama, when the “stakes” are so high, is too big a risk.
