That’s when Wolverines junior guard Jeremy Jones took over.
Jones scored 16 points in the second quarter and made all four of his three-point attempts as Simeon advanced with a 59-47 victory over Hyde Park.
The Wolverines, who face Washington in the tournament’s quarterfinals Thursday at DePaul’s Sullivan Athletic Center, outscored the Thunderbirds 22-10 in the decisive second quarter.
Jones finished with a team-high 18 points, and Illinois-bound Stanley Simpson finished with 15 points, eight rebounds and three blocks for Simeon (8-2). Illini assistant coach Wayne McClain watched the game from courtside.
Hyde Park fell to 10-2.
