Price shock
I read with interest Ellen Warren’s Shopping Adviser (“Fashion Problem: Solved,” At Play, Feb. 21).
I am the blue shirt/khaki sort of person she described, happily residing in a fashion “ditch” for many years.
The three outfits she selected looked OK, I guess … until I read the prices.
Outfit No. 1: $1,176.
No. 2: $1,412.
No. 3: $1,253.
Who is this article aimed at?
Who in his right mind would spend nearly $5,000 on three nondescript outfits?
Who would pay $250 for a gray hooded sweatshirt?
Who would pay $498 for a brown sweater?
Who spends $268 on a shirt?
I am astonished.
Warren must think every Tribune reader earns a six-figure income.
I am happily with no fashion sense.

Fashion exam
Recommending a $250 hoodie for a guy who requires fashion advice? He probably needs his head examined if he buys that.

Whom to trust?
I enjoyed your readers’ comments about who is more trustworthy, Sen. Hillary Clinton or Sen. Barack Obama. Writer Nancy J. Thorner (“Trust denied,” Commentary, Feb. 21) trusts neither, saying “their policies … would put this nation on a downward spiral toward mediocracy.”
Under the current administration, we are mired in an endless war, spending billions every year; our foreign policies have created ill will around the world; we have turned our budget surplus into a deficit; many of our government agencies are dysfunctional or sinking in scandal (FEMA, the FDA, the Justice Department’s handling of U.S. attorneys’ vacancies). I wonder what kind of path Thorner thinks we’re on now?
