A teenager charged with shooting a 12-year-old girl in a gang-related incident last week was held Monday in lieu of $450,000 bail.
Jaki Bell, 15, of the 9000 block of South Marquette Avenue was charged as an adult Friday with aggravated battery with a firearm.
Adamnesha Harris, a 5th grader, who authorities said was not the intended target, was struck in the 8800 block of South Houston Avenue while talking to boys she knew, prosecutors said.
The boys were members of a gang, prosecutors said. Bell, who prosecutors said is a member of a rival gang, approached the group. When Bell was a few houses away, he allegedly yelled a gang slogan, pulled out a handgun and fired, Cook County Assistant State’s Atty. Michael Hogan said. The bullet hit Adamnesha in the lower back.
One of Adamnesha’s friends took her to a nearby home, Hogan said. Five witnesses said Bell was the boy who approached the group and yelled gang slogans, Hogan said. Three others identified him as the gunman, he said.
