Summary: Travis Scott’s two-handed dunk with 6 minutes 26 seconds left in the second quarter kicked off a 14-2 run that gave Hillcrest a 28-17 lead late in the first half. The lead grew to 12 after Hillcrest’s Eric Gaines sank both free throws with 3:20 left in the third, but Brooks responded with a 9-1 run to make it 41-37 heading into the fourth. The Eagles took a 42-41 lead on George Marshall Jr.’s free throws with 7:05 left (he scored 17 of his 29 on free throws).
Top performers: Brooks–Marshall Jr. 29 points (off the bench); Michael Powell Jr. 11 points. Hillcrest–Gaines 13 points; Scott 12 points, Kadeem Thornton, 10 points, 9 rebounds.
The bonus: “We’ve seemed to have these sort of games all season and we always seem to pull it out,” Marshall Jr. said.
