American League
Twins: Designated hitter Jason Kubel was scratched from the lineup against the Brewers because of swelling in his left knee.
Yankees: Chien-Ming Wang was activated and pitched out of the bullpen Friday with Brian Bruney once against experiencing elbow pain. Wang was 0-3 with a 34.50 ERA before going on the disabled list in late April. He’s been rehabbing in Triple-A.
Orioles: Adam Eaton was released after he won only two of eight starts with an 8.56 ERA.
Blue Jays: Right-hander Casey Janssen, utilityman Joe Inglett and left-hander Ricky Romero were called up from Triple-A Las Vegas. Outfielder Travis Snider, left-hander Brett Cecil and right-hander Bobby Ray were optioned out.
National League
Cardinals: Outfielder Ryan Ludwick might return from the 15-day disabled list before Rick Ankiel, who was eligible to come back Wednesday.
Reds: Outfielder Jonny Gomes and right-hander Carlos Fisher were recalled from Triple-A Louisville. The Reds also called up right-hander Homer Bailey, who will start on Saturday against the Indians in place of Edinson Volquez, who went on the 15-day disabled list with back spasms.
Braves: Chipper Jones was out of the lineup against the Blue Jays after hurting his right big toe running to first Thursday.
Brewers: Shortstop J.J. Hardy has left Friday’s game at Minnesota in the fourth inning because of back spasms. Hardy got the Brewers’ first hit Friday, a double off the right-field wall in the top of the fourth.
Mets: Former pitcher Jerry Koosman pleaded guilty to federal tax evasion and could face up to one year in prison. Koosman, an All-Star who helped the Mets win the 1969 World Series, failed to pay federal income taxes for 2002, 2003 and 2004, defrauding the government out of as much as $90,000. He also faces $25,000 in fines.
