Chicago-based wireless carrier U.S. Cellular said Friday it plans to launch two tablets and eight smartphones before year-end, with the line-up of devices including the company’s first 4G-enabled smartphone.
U.S. Cellular is planning to light up its 4G network by November to selected cities in Iowa, Wisconsin, Maine, North Carolina, Texas and Oklahoma. The carrier said Friday “its first wave” of 4G devices will also come out in November, with one of those products being a smartphone.
One of U.S. Cellular’s new phones for this year is a Windows 7 device from HTC. Other devices are coming from Motorola, LG, Samsung and Huawei, and will run on Google’s Android operating system. One of the two tablets is an HTC device that has a seven-inch screen and runs on Android.
Telephone and Data Systems Inc. owns 83 percent of U.S. Cellular.
