A 29-year-old Schaumburg man was charged today in a hit-and-run accident last week that left a pedestrian seriously injured.
Schaumburg police announced the arrest of Adrian R. Perea of the 1300 block of Cambia Drive, who has been charged with one felony count of failure to stop after an accident involving injury or death, according to a news release from the suburb.
On Aug. 25 at about 10:15 p.m. Perea was driving southbound on Springinsguth Road when his dark-colored SUV struck a 17-year-old pedestrian who was standing in the middle of the road near Syracuse Lane in Schaumburg, according to the police release.
The victim suffered serious injuries to his head, arm and leg, and remained hospitalized today although he is out of the intensive care unit.
Police said Perea fled the scene southbound on Springinsguth Road, and after putting out a description on Aug. 26 police received a tip from a member of the public about a vehicle that turned out to be the one being driven in the crash. Perea later attempted to contact police, and after further days of investigation the charges were approved and he was arrested today, according to the release.
Perea is scheduled to appear for a bond hearing Friday in the Rolling Meadows courthouse, police said.
