Abby Flanagan-Frankl was in second grade on Sept. 11, 2001, when terrorists attacked the United States. But this year, for the 10th anniversary of that day, she is helping assemble a memorial.
“I don’t really remember much that day,” said the Glenbrook North High School senior. “During school, they put us in one room together. Back then, you don’t really realize how big of an impact it had.”
Flanagan-Frankl and other students sat on the stage of the Glenbrook North auditorium this week, trying to determine how to affix red, white and blue notecards to a giant tarp. Written on each card were one or two names of people killed in the 2001 attacks, arranged in the patterns on the American flag.
The flag is scheduled to be presented Friday during an assembly at Glenbrook North.
