Situation:

The Falcons have the ball on the Bears’ 35. It’s second-and-2 with 2 minutes, 48 seconds left in the first quarter. The score is 3-3.

Result:

Matt Ryan is intercepted by Brian Urlacher.

The tape shows:

The Falcons run a play-action fake to their left, and Ryan runs a bootleg to his right.

Nickel corner D.J. Moore is blitzing from the left side, and he never buys the fake. He heads directly to the quarterback and is unblocked, so he forces Ryan to make a quick throw.

Wide receiver Harry Douglas is open in the right flat with Major Wright over the top, but Ryan apparently is too hurried to recognize it. Instead, he throws across his body to his left for tight end Tony Gonzalez, who runs a crossing route from the other side of the formation.

Urlacher initially steps to the direction of the play-action but recovers quickly and moves to his left with the quarterback. He bursts toward the soft throw, jumping almost horizontally and stretching to catch the ball in the air.
