Right fielder Carlos Quentin, who hasn’t played since Aug. 20 when he suffered a sprain of the AC joint in his left shoulder, was activated Monday by the Chicago White Sox.
Quentin, 29, is batting .255 with 31 doubles, 24 home runs and 77 RBIs.
Quentin is not in Monday night’s lineup against American League Central leader Detroit. Juan Pierre will return to his familiar left field position while Alex Rios will handle the designated hitter duties.
The Sox’s tragic number for elimination from post-season play is seven, meaning that Thursday is the earliest they can be eliminated.
Alejandro De Aza, who has provided a spark for the Sox since being recalled from Triple-A Charlotte on July 27, will handle Rios’ center field duties.
Here is the Sox’s lineup against Rick Porcello:
Pierre – LF
Ramirez – SS
Konerko – 1B
Pierzynski – C
Viciedo – RF
Rios – DH
De Aza – CF
Morel – 3B
Beckham – 2B
Danks – P
