A man in his 20s and his 4-year-old son were shot while sitting in a car in the Ashburn neighborhood on the Southwest Side Sunday night.
The man suffered a gunshot wound to his body while the child had a graze wound, according to police. Both were taken in serious condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, but their injuries were not considered life-threatening, authorities said.
The shooting occurred about 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the 8000 block of South Knox Avenue, according to police News Affairs Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti. The 4-year-old was sitting on his father’s lap in the front passenger seat of a parked car, according to another police source.
A male relative was in the driver’s seat and, as the two men were talking, a gunman approached the driver’s side window, police said. The relative rolled down the window to find out what he wanted, and the man raised a handgun and opened fire, police said.
The gunman got into a maroon Jeep Cherokee and fled north on Kilpatrick Avenue.
No one was in custody this morning, police said.
